Overbrook Environmental Education Center

Environmental Justice

 

The Overbrook Environmental Education Center is an active member of the city's Environmental Justice (EJ) & Sustainability community and is a great example of smart growth and how to repurpose aging urban infrastructure to meet the current needs of the Overbrook/Wynnefield community.

 

The center (a former brownfield site), located at 6130-50 Lancaster Avenue in the Overbrook/Wynnefield section of West Philadelphia, was repurposed by removing 20 tons of trash and debris, reintroducing native fauna, adding bioretension systems, urban forestry, agriculture, and orchards.
